This ghazal of Behzad Lucknowi (Lakhnawi) is something I just can't resist the temptation of reading again and again
Ai jazba-e-dil gar main chahuuN har cheez muqabil aa jaye
Manzil ke liye do gaam chaluun aur saamne manzil aa jaye
Ai rahbare-kaamil chalne ko taiyar to huN main par yaad rahe
Us waqt mujhe bhatka dena jab saamne manzil aa jaye
Is jazba-e-gham ke baare mein ek mashvira tumse leta huuN
Us waqt mujhe kya laazim hai jab tum pe mera dil aa jaye

Brilliant.
awesome...
added ur blog to the list on my page!
There is a plethora of misspelled names/terms by the englishmen:
Delhi, Meerut, Izatnagar, lucknow
lacs etc.
Given the fact that the English weren't bound to spell them correctly, I am unable to understand the thinking process that makes Indians prefer these misspelled proper-nouns over more faithful transliteration of proper Urdu nouns?
Cud u pls explain?
Few spellings that are awkward have survived. Otherwise Cawnpore, Saugor, Jabbalpore and lots of others have perished. The ones like Lucknow are quite close to the original pronounciations that is why I think the spellings that are commonly used should be used by us also.
Thanks Adnan for explaining.
I shall wait for the people who are genuinely concerned about correcting names to notice and correct this, like they have done to Bombay(Mumbai). Their concerted efforts triumphed over the historical & international name arguments.
When this happens, may be Behzad's second name will get a side effect like the new song
'Yeh Mumbai shaher haadsoN ka shaher hai' :)
what a treat of a reading .. great !
Could someone please translate this for me, a friend sent it to me but I do not understand the language. I think it's Urdu....Jab thumara kaaj khatam hojayegi thab meri dosti thumari saath khatam hojayegi. Ek aur kaate mile tho meri jaan khatam hojayegi. Mujhe maaf karna.... Thank you
Behzad lakhnawi is my maternal great grandfather!
Great to know that his poetry is on the web too:)
