The lack of interest among Muslims and relatively low social activism among the community, is responsible for the situation. There are huge chunks of land in every city and often there are govt offices and private buildings constructed on them but waqf boads take no more than a few hundred or thousands in rent, sometimes no rent at all.

@ Mateen: Ya, the land which Waqf Boards have, is enough to take care of the education and health needs of the Muslims. But apathy and mindboggling corruption is responsile for the mess.

Thanks Yayaver, Anon. There is also ignorance; I have only the haziest idea of what Waqf boards do and it's not hard to imagine that many laypeople might also not know.

Perhaps a demand for greater accountability might be the answer rather than disbanding the boards.mummyjaanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11439816857061091370noreply@blogger.com
