Big Betrayal: NEET paper leak is a case of huge corruption, teachers' arrest shows nexus with paper leak mafia

The NEET paper leak in India is a shocking case of corruption and immoral behavior that also shows the extent of greed.

Over 2.2 million students appear in the exam for admission to medical courses.

But a botany teacher Manisha Mandhare along with other suspects, leaked the paper, says the investigating agency. The role of other suspects include Manisha Waghmare, PVR Kulkarni and half-a-dozen persons, is under investigation.

The manner in which the teachers and others leaked the paper, has raised a question mark on the entire process. National Test Agency (NTA) conducts the exam. Manisha Mandhare, a botany teacher, was an expert for NTA. But she betrayed the students.

Students who were preparing for the exam and were hoping to crack it, are in a state of shock. Some of the aspirants also died by suicide after the paper leak and cancellation of the exam, was announced.

Year after year, such paper leaks have caused a dent in the credibility of the agencies that conduct the examination. Those who take oath of secrecy and have an important role, get involved in paper leak, due to greed.

The co-accused, PV Kulkarni, is a retired lecturer, who has been arrested from Pune. He was also part of this gang that was involved in paper leak. It is learnt that Kulkarni was included in the examination process as NTA had picked him.

However, he provided the questions to others including Manisha Waghmare, who is another accused in this case, CBI officials told court. Waghmare also got arrested from Pune that has emerged as epicentre of the gang that has leaked the paper.

Mandhare works at the Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Pune. She had access to paper and special coaching sessions were conducted at her house, where students were told to note important questions that later matched the questions that appeared in the NEET UG Biology paper.

Clearly, the claims about the examination process being foolproof have proved to be false. The fact that question papers are leaked again and again, points towards the systematic failure. In some cases, citizens and media get information.

Otherwise, in many other exams, the papers are leaked and the 'beneficiaries' manage to crack the examinations through unfair means, as they pay an amount to get the questions in advance and solve them, easily, as they get the question paper much before the exam.

Again, what needs to be stressed is that the role of teachers who are supposed to be honest. They get their salaries and are respected. They ought to have guarded the paper. But they didn't and leaked it days before the examination.

Ten days before the NEET exam, the leak happened.

In Nanded, CBI raided the house of Bhau Rao Kadam, who allegedly paid Rs 5 lakh to buy the leaked question paper for his daughter. Shivraj Motegaonkar, the founder of Renukai Chemistry Classes (RCC) has also been arrested.

His coaching had nine branches and one of the branch is in Latur in Maharashtra. The leaked paper was recovered from his mobile phone. He is the active member of the organized gang that was involved in the paper leak.

Is there a solution?

Imagine, that the responsibility is given to seasoned teachers but they just sell their conscience for money. The trust of students' and their parents, broken again. All due to greed, the systematic corruption and lure of money through illegitimate means!
