Muslims and RSS leaders meet in UP

When the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) leaders and Muslims including the Ulama meet, it should make a news but there was no report published in major newspapers published from Delhi.

The programme was held in Moradabad. Many Muslims were sceptical. Some called it political skulduggery though there were a few who welcomed the initiative. The occasion was Ittehad-e-Ahl-e-Watan conference.

The questions in the mind of Muslims were raised. Several Muslims asked direct questions and the RSS leaders replied to the charges. Though cynics would laugh at such an exercise and dismiss it as useless, I personally feel that social interaction with even your die-hard opponent is a welcome step.

Agreed that RSS has an agenda and its leaders have a different vision of India, a country where minorities are subjugated. Many Muslims say that it is hydra-headed RSS propaganda that has demonised the madarsas.

Such is the situation that seminaries like Deoband that played a leading role in freedom struggle are today seen with suspicion while RSS and [especially, its allied organisations] that had no role in independence movement, today set yardsticks for nationalism.

The current global geopolitics is also responsible for the situation. But it's always better to talk. I don't see any harm in that. When RSS leader Indresh told the gathering of Muslims that there should be joint monitoring committees to check riots and identity the rioters, it was nevertheless a heartening thing to hear for the audience.

"Many of you just said that you have a fear and suspicion about RSS. But today I'm standing amid you without police protection and we have talked, agreed on many issues and there is no discord", spoke Indresh, who asked the Muslims to think whether not all the major communal riots in India till 1992 were under the Congress rule.

There were Maulanas, Muftis and a large number of ordinary Muslims. Nobody should expect any change of hearts but at least, social contact will help improve the relations and also strengthen the unity.

Personally I feel that when you know a person of other religion and share a bond with him, the next time you are making a statement, the next time you may use a less harsh word for him or his religion.

Neither an RSS worker will change his world view overnight nor a Muslim become sympathetic to the cause of the lathi-wielding khaki-clad RSS swayamsevak. But meeting and eating together can soften hearts.

It happened in the City of renowned Urdu poet late Jigar Muradabadi. Moradabad district has the highest Muslim population in the entire country save for Kerala's Mallappuram and West Bengal's Murshidabad with nearly 25 lakh (2.5 million) Muslims.

It was Ali Sikandar 'Jigar' Muradabadi who had written the immortal lines:

unka jo kaam hai, voh ahl-e-siyasat jaaneN
meraa paiGaam mohabbat hai, jahaaN tak poNhche

I am with them when they oppose the cola, Pepsi and wine culture that is gradually infiltrating in Indian culture. But i am against them whem they promote violence and this kind of religious fanaticism as this one that I read rcently.
But it is always good to talk and not hate each other in way that is not good for a strong India.

Here's wishing you a lovely Id-e-milad.

As for the meeting between Muslims and RSS leaders what could be better than these two coming together to find some common ground of equal co-existence.

1,400 years ago Allah has ordained the Muslims to invite people of other faiths for an "inter-faith dialogue" to explore common ground for meeting and building bridges of understanding!(Holy Quran 3:64).We failed to carry out the commandment of our Lord and today we are obliged to face such humiliating circumstances!Social interaction would dispel misconceptions, misunderstandings and mutual suspicion and hatred! The last of revelations, namely Al Quran is a wide and deep ocean of knowledge and wisdom, wherein a diver could always come up with gems of rare varieties!
1. "Revile NOT those whom they worship !"(6:108)
2."Let there be no compulsion in religion".(2:256)
3."Had not Allah permitted some to fight with other, monasteries of hermits, Churches of Christians, synagogues of Jews and places of worship like mosques, where name of
God is much remembered, wouldsurely
had been erased"!(22:40).
4. "Greater Jihad consits in striving to the utmost against disbelievers with verses of the Quran only".(25:52).
5"Mankind is one community".(49:13)
6."Invite{all)to the way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious."(16:125)
7."We sent you(Prophet Muhamed) not,but as a mercy for all creatures".(21:107).
8.Wicked men easily emerge as leaders and they are engaged in plotting against others. In fact they plot against themselves only but they do not perceive.(6:123).

Anser Azim bhai, a food for thought for you.

I find it curious that you sitting in Chicago are opposed to the cola and wine culture. You left for better prospects. Good for you. But don't expect the rest of us to remain exactly the same while you change and evolve to adapt to new circumstances. Please do not make the mistake of presuming to know what is good for those whom you left behind. :)

KK: You have a point. Dukhti rag pai haath rakh Diya...aapne. It is a long story... I at times wish if I can get one " those long quiet, steamy, starry but Suhani Ratein"
I ahve not seen star filled skies since ages...It is all masnavi"
But I know it is becoming the same in India too....

The article presumes that the RSS is evil. And, similarly presumes that the RSS thinks all Muslims are evil.

There can be no discussion if one has a closed mind. Both have to come to the table with the view that the other cannot be bad. Not that 'though they are bad, we should talk'. That wont help.

So, I feel that the fact that there is a dialogue means that a few or several on either side do feel that there is scope for understanding.

"RSS has an agenda and its leaders have a different vision of India, a country where MINORITIES ARE SUBJUGATED."

When you have already made up your mind about the RSS agenda, an opinion you continue to promulgate even in the context of saying it is good that muslim leaders and RSS leaders talked, what would be the point in talking? Would it be too much to ask for you to make a good faith effort to come to the table with at least a half way open mind.

And where are you getting your info on RSS not contributing to the freedom struggle as opposed to Deobandis who did. Everybody banded for the same cause and that was to get the British out even if they did not struggle all together.

The bigger question is what have the Deobandhis been doing since then and what has RSS been doing. I am no fan of RSS contricted ideas on Indian culture and what it means to be an Indian, but I would like to know why are the Deobandhi religious leaders issuing fatwas on matters that is not in their jurisdiction as defined by the Constitution to interfere in matters of state like educational curriculum outside of Madarasas with instructions on what Muslim children can or cannot read, and interfere with the constitutionally guaranteed citizenship right of religious freedom in forcing an individual on how he must or must not pray.

Also, please take note in this situation who is reaching out to answer questions and who is judging. Reconciliation, my dear, is not a one way street. There is something to be said about reciprocity. In that spirit, if you read this An Indian Muslim, I look forward to your answer on thee question of fatwas above.

Indresh's efforts to bring about a rapport between Muslims and RSS is a welcome thing.Neither Hindu religion nor Islam direct their adherents to hate and kill each other. This was the design of one who wanted to build his own fortune and giving the impression he is championing the cause of Hindus. If RSS realizes it and treat muslims as equals, the matter ends.

Let me clarify a lot of misconceptions that I read here.

1.It is true that RSS as an organization did not participate in the Freedom struggle. But that is because RSS is a social organization not a political one. It's goal is to work towards unity & upliftment of Hindus & preserving the Hindu Culture.
RSS believes that as long as Hindus keep fighting amongst themselves, the outsiders, be them from Britannia or Arabia will always have a chance to rule us.

Even today it does not fight political elections, it only works for social causes. BJP does the political fighting. Individual members i.e Veer Savarkar etc did fight during the freedom struggle.

2.Also to note is that "RSS" the so called communal org opposed the partition of India. It was the communal Muslim League "Not the Hindu RSS" that partitioned India. The documented fact is that most Muslims across India voted in favor of Pakistan, yet most stayed back in India. There was never any voting done asking the Hindus to find out if they wanted to live in such a broken India or along with Muslims ..who apparently could not live with us. Congress leaders were elected during elections for sure but no one had given them mandate to partition India or push fake secularism down our throat.

Pseudo Secularism was imposed on Hindus without any plebiscite. Muslims however got VIP treatment, those who wanted to go to Pakistan left those who wanted to stay here remained.

3.BTW..Along with the Gujarat episode, are you also going to talk about the Hindu Holocaust in Kashmir.

4.Lastly, LTTE is not a HINDU organization. Tamils are Hindus, Christians and even Muslims. In fact there a lot of Christians in LTTE. They fight for a Tamil Elam not Hindu Elam. They even wanted to break Tamil Nadu from India. That's why they are not called "Hindu Terrorists" they are "Tamil Terrorists".

rss plans to unite all indians AND UNITE PAKISTAN AND MAYBE EVEN AFGANISTAN.im a hindu i dont HATE MUSLIMS but yes a few people i know do .i dont get to understand these rss guys. they are discliplined dont get into alchohol as common politicians get into. so they sometimes surprise me.also wat is this hindutva. i doubt if it even relates to hinduism on religious grounds even by a fraction.
as a person one should not have problem in admiring lord krishna or prophet mohammed.we all agree that they didnt say anything wrong. but we still focus on some stray comment or incident and start a word fight.
